Go Green!

At this time of year, we all begin to think green. The leaves and grass are turning green, our country is encouraging us to “go green,” and on St. Patrick’s Day we wear green to keep from getting pinched!

When we think of green at Grandma’s Pantry, we think of wasabi! What is wasabi? Wasabi is a Japanese horseradish which comes from a plant that grows naturally along the stream beds of mountain river valleys in Japan. The root is used as a spice and has an extremely strong flavor. Its hotness is like a hot mustard that produces a strong vapor which irritates the nasal passages. If you are someone who likes things hot, then our Wasabi products are for you.

We sell Wasabi powder, which is a fine, dry spice that can be used to make foods hot. As a snack, we also have Wasabi Peanut Crunchies, which are individual peanuts coated with a crunchy green Wasabi shell.

Wasabi-coated fried peas come in regular wasabi coating and an extra hot Wasabi coating.

Wasabi-coated soy nuts are also available at the Pantry.

When you visit Grandma’s Pantry, in Harrisonburg, Virginia, you will find that we always keep our Wasabi Peanut Crunchies out as a sample for our customers - with a warning sign that says “HOT”. It is always interesting to watch the expression on our customers’ faces as they sample the Wasabi Peanut Crunchies. There are those who really like it hot, and there are those who…well, let’s just say we tried to warn them.

If you like to “go green” and if you like things HOT, go Wasabi green at Grandma’s Pantry. You can check out our Wasabi products - and all of our wonderful products at www.GrandmasPantryVa.com.

“So, whatever you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” I Corinthians 10:31
